Jose Silicani, tyre and rubber consultant, leading tire manufacturers
1. Please
identify one significant development in the tire industry in the last 2-3
years, and explain its importance.
The most significant
development is on getting engaged in digital transformation, mainly considering
industry 4.0 and development of intelligent tires to increase customer
experience when using tires.
2. What
do you see as main obstacles to the development of the tire manufacturing
industry in the coming years?
Main obstacles are in the
necessity to move to industry 4.0 and general digitalisation process with the
necessary speed that market is moving into this direction. Tire industry is
currently facing tight economic situation that requires a tight control of
investment and relatively short ROI.
3. Which
technologies will play the biggest role in shaping the ‘tire factory of the
future’, and why?
Technology that can provide
useful connectivity between the different batch processes included in tire
production process that should use large data base on each process that
currently used only for the existing process step.
4. What
major changes do you expect to see in tire manufacture and supply over the next
few years?
Increase collaboration with
more openness between tire industry and suppliers as well as increase data base
sharing. Difficult for traditionally conservative and closed industry.
